Jewelry Care Guide

Each Kwintner piece is crafted to be worn and cherished for generations. With proper care, the natural beauty of our materials will only deepen over time — developing a character that is uniquely yours.

Our Approach

Crafted to Endure,
Made to Be Worn

Kwintner jewelry is designed for life, not for a display case. Our pieces are forged from 14k and 18k gold and, in select collections, paired with Campo Del Cielo Meteorite, a material that has survived four billion years of cosmic travel. These are resilient materials, but like all precious things, they respond to how they are treated.

The guidelines below will help you preserve the integrity and beauty of your pieces. Think of this not as a set of restrictions, but as a way to honour the craftsmanship and the story embedded in every surface.

“Gold remembers every touch. Meteorite remembers every star. Your care ensures their stories continue.”— The Kwintner Studio

Material Guide

Caring for Your Gold

Kwintner pieces are crafted in 14k and 18k gold. Warm, luminous, and naturally resistant to tarnish. With mindful care, your gold will develop a beautiful patina that only enhances its character.

Cleaning

  1. Soak your piece in warm water with a few drops of mild dish soap for 10–15 minutes.
  2. Use a soft-bristle brush (a baby toothbrush works well) to gently clean textured surfaces and behind stone settings.
  3. Rinse thoroughly under lukewarm running water. Never boiling.
  4. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth. Allow to air dry completely before storing.
  5. For a quick refresh between deep cleans, polish gently with a dry microfibre cloth.

Daily Wear

  1. Apply perfume, lotions, and hairspray before putting on your jewelry. Chemicals in these products can dull the finish over time.
  2. Remove your pieces before swimming, bathing, or exercising. Chlorine, saltwater, and perspiration can accelerate tarnishing.
  3. Avoid wearing jewelry during household cleaning or gardening, where exposure to abrasives and chemicals is likely.
  4. Gold is a soft metal. Be mindful of impacts that could scratch or dent the surface, particularly with 18k pieces.

Storage

  1. Store each piece separately in the Kwintner pouch or box provided to prevent scratching.
  2. Keep jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity.
  3. For necklaces and chains, fasten the clasp before storing to prevent tangling.
  4. Avoid storing gold alongside harder gemstones or diamonds that could scratch the metal surface.

Special Material

Caring for Meteorite

Meteorite is an extraordinary material that requires specialised attention. These guidelines will help you preserve the ancient crystalline patterns that make your piece irreplaceable.

01

Understanding Your Meteorite

Kwintner meteorite pieces are mined from Argentina’s Campo Del Cielo meteorite fall. An iron based alloy that fell to Earth approximately four thousand years ago. No two patterns are identical, making every piece a true one-of-a-kind artifact.

02

Oxidation & Patina

Meteorite is primarily composed of iron and will naturally develop a surface patina when exposed to moisture and salt. This is not a defect. It is the material's living character. A light, even patina can be beautiful and is embraced by many collectors.

03

Cleaning Protocol

Wipe your meteorite piece with a dry, soft cloth to remove moisture and oils. For deeper cleaning, use a cloth lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Never soak meteorite in water or any liquid. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners.

04

Moisture Prevention

Remove meteorite jewelry before washing hands, swimming, bathing, or any water-related activity. After exposure to rain or perspiration, dry the piece immediately and thoroughly. Store with a silica gel packet to absorb ambient humidity.

05

Rust Management

If surface rust appears, do not panic. Gently rub the affected area with a soft cloth dampened with a small amount of baking soda and water paste. For persistent oxidation, bring your piece to the Kwintner studio.

06

Long-Term Storage

When not wearing your meteorite piece for extended periods, store it in the provided Kwintner box with a silica gel packet. Wrap the piece in the anti-tarnish cloth included with your purchase.

“Meteorite is a living material. Its subtle changes over time are not imperfections — they are the continuation of a four-billion-year journey.”— The Kwintner Studio

Best Practices

Storage & Daily Wear

01

The Last On, First Off Rule

Make your jewelry the last thing you put on when getting ready and the first thing you remove when you arrive home. This simple habit protects your pieces from cosmetics, perfumes, and the rigours of daily activity.

02

Separate Storage

Store each piece individually in its Kwintner pouch or box. Gold is a soft metal and can be scratched by harder materials. Meteorite has a delicate crystalline surface that benefits from isolation.

03

Climate Awareness

Avoid storing jewelry in bathrooms or other humid environments. Excessive moisture accelerates oxidation on meteorite and can dull the lustre of gold.

04

Regular Inspection

Examine your pieces monthly for loose stones, worn prongs, or signs of oxidation. Early detection prevents more significant issues.

05

Travel Precautions

When travelling, use a padded jewelry roll or individual pouches. Never pack jewelry loosely in luggage where it can shift and collide.

06

We recommend bringing your Kwintner pieces to our studio once a year for a professional cleaning and inspection.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked

Can I wear my gold jewelry in the shower?

We recommend removing your jewelry before showering. Soap residue and minerals can build up over time, dulling the finish; that said, it's not a must.

How often should I clean my jewelry?

For pieces worn daily, wipe with a soft cloth after a few wears. Generally speaking, a deeper clean should be done every 2–4 weeks.

Is it normal for meteorite to change colour?

Yes. Meteorites will develop a subtle patina over time when exposed to moisture or salt. This is part of the material's living character.

Can I use a jewellery cleaning solution on meteorite?

No. Use only a dry cloth or one lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol for meteorite care.

What should I do if a stone feels loose?

Stop wearing the piece immediately and contact our team.

Can I resize a ring that contains meteorite?

Meteorite rings require specialised resizing techniques and should only be handled by Kwintner artisans.

Do you offer a cleaning kit for purchase?

Every Kwintner piece comes with a complimentary anti-tarnish pouch and polishing cloth.
